Complete Toilet Frames & Seats Buying Guide

The different types
of Toilet Frames & Seats

Toilet Frames & Seats

Everyone wants to retain their dignity by being able sit down on the toilet and safely stand independently. However due to many conditions, disabilities (short and long term) or post surgery this may not be possible.

However there are a number of options available which can ensure the home toilet remains safe to use.

Grab Rails

Grab rails and toilet frames are the simplest aid to standing from the toilet. Grab rails will need to be securely attached to the wall and their positioning is often advised by an occupational therapist.

Toilet Frames

Toilet frames sit around the toilet and are height adjustable to suit the height of the toilet pan and height of the user.

Toilet Seat Raisers

When the toilet pan is low it is often difficult to safely lower oneself and also to stand unaided. A toilet seat raiser or over toilet aid will increase the height of the seat.

Toilet seat raisers are typically not height adjustable so you will need to know how many cm you want to raise the seat. Some models also incorporate arms to offer leverage and stability to the user.

Over Toilet Aids

Over toilet aids are a toilet frame with a seat that sits over the toilet. They are height adjustable and incorporate a toilet seat. A plastic splashguard sits in the frame underneath the seat to ensure all waste goes into the toilet pan.

By adding an optional pan to sit under the seat the over toilet aid can also serve as a bedside commode chair.
