You can call it a walker, a rollator or a 4 wheel walker but we all are talking about the same thing most of the time.
They all have 4 wheels, hand brakes and a seat ... and they fold.
But there are also numerous differences in walkers which you need to be aware of when selecting a suitable model.
There are 2 basic designs (1) the traditional "A-frame" and (2) the more modern "X-frame" or "Euro frame".
A-frame
PROS - less expensive; models with smaller wheels are easier to manoeuvre indoors
CONS - cumbersome to pick up; do not stand when folded
X-frame (Euro frame)
PROS - more attractive; easier to get into car behind front seat; allow a more upright stance; larger wheels are better on uneven surfaces
CONS - still cumbersome to pick up; need a bit more room to manoeuvre indoors.
There is also a new design which is not A-frame or X-frame and is the most compact 4 wheel walker available. It is the recently released EZ Fold n Go Rollator. These are so much less cumbersome and great for public transport and for lifting into car boots etc.
